This can work just like on a Chromecast, which also allows you to mirror your entire display. Just follow these instructions to get it up and running. If you do have the appropriate hardware, you can use this feature to wirelessly mirror your computer, smartphone, or tablet's display on your TV.

Unfortunately, it does require special hardware support-you can't just use any old PC that was upgraded to Windows 8.1, and you can't just use any old phone that was upgraded to Android 4.2 or later. Miracast is built into Windows 8.1, Windows phone, and Android 4.2+. Google and Amazon really need to work out their issues.Roku devices also support "Screen mirroring," a feature that uses the open Miracast standard. If your TV doesn't have 4K apps built-in, then I'd recommend getting the Roku Premiere+ or Ultra over the Chromecast. But if all you care about is watching Stranger Things or Transparent in 4K, that might not matter. (The Chromecast Ultra is the first Chromecast that can play YouTube at 60fps, if you care about that nerdy tidbit.) Looking into the future, Roku's apps - and definitely those on your phone - will be updated more often and do a better job of keeping current than any Smart TV app.

It’s not like you can load up Sling TV, HBO Go, or WatchESPN in 4K many, many apps haven’t made the upgrade and are still limited to 1080p. If your 4K set comes with Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube out of the box and they all stream in UHD, I really can’t see much reason for spending extra on either of these devices. But do you even need either of these? Almost every 4K TV sold today has apps of its own, and they likely cover most of your needs.
